SCTV had several network producers during the NBC years - "safe hands" sent by the network to keep an eye on the show and liaise with the network brass in Los Angeles. These included Nicolas Wry, Don Novello, Nancy Geller, and the subject of the following Spy expose from September 1990, Barry Sand. Sand produced SCTV for a cycle of shows between stints with David Letterman, and can be spotted handing John Huston a can of Cow Malt Liquor in Show 2 of Cycle 2. Rick Moranis based his character Lenny Schectman, one-time partner of Libby Wolfson, on Sand.
